Learn a traditional craft and create unique objects with your own hands!

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 3 PM to 6 PM, come to the Barcelona Room of the Museu Terra (Poblenou) and participate in this basketry workshop for adults.

During the 7-hour session, we will craft an oval wicker bag with a traditional Catalan base. You will learn basic wicker weaving techniques, such as the 3-strand wale and hand weaving, using different varieties of wicker. We will finish the piece with a flat border and add a leather or cotton strap so it can be worn over the shoulder.

In addition, you will learn about the plants used in local basketry: where to find them and how to prepare them so they are flexible and suitable for weaving.

No prior knowledge is required.

The course will be led by master basket maker Mònica Guilera and is priced at €90 per person.

To register, advanced online payment is required.

For any questions, please contact the Museum at 933 969 318 or by email at sala.bcn@museuterra.srvcactus.com.

Spaces are limited.

Mònica Guilera

Mònica Guilera learned the craft of basketry following the Catalan tradition, combining wicker and cane as essential materials.

With over twenty-four years of experience making and teaching basketry, she has an extensive repertoire of pieces and enjoys designing contemporary baskets based on traditional techniques. One of Mònica's specialties is the technique that Mediterranean fishermen have used since time immemorial to make fishing traps. With deep roots and modern sensibility, Mònica's pieces explore color, shape, and weaving possibilities for a contemporary home.

She lives and has her workshop in Vilanova i la Geltrú (El Garraf); the materials she uses come from her surroundings and local growers. She works internationally, participating in exhibitions, fairs, and projects throughout Europe.
